Mr Andreas Giesen has more than 30 years of experience with Royal HaskoningDHV in the water and wastewater technology field. He is a dynamic expert that combines wide and deep water treatment expertise with managerial and innovation & product development skills. In his previous position he was responsible for the company’s innovation & product development agenda in the water sector. The Nereda® aerobic granular sludge technology is just one of the breakthroughs developed Royal HaskoningDHV. In his current position as Director Technology he is responsible for safeguarding the company’s upfront technology position in general - and for Nereda in particular - and ensuring the required performance in the international applications.

Koos Wieriks studied Spatial Planning at the Delft University of Technology. He has been active in national and international water management since 1980 in different positions: He was involved in the policy formulation for Dutch Water Management and in the formulation and implementation of North Sea Policies. He worked abroad as head of the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine River in Germany and as Advisor Water Management to the Indonesian Minister of Public Works in Jakarta. Afterwards he became Secretary of the Dutch Water Management Advisory Board and Personal Advisor Water Management to the Prince of Orange. He was a member of the United Nations Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation and is still active in the High Level Expert and Leaders Panel on Water and Disaster. He currently works in Indonesia again as Principal Advisor to the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project.

Jules van Lier is full professor “Wastewater Treatment / Environmental Engineering” and head of the Section Sanitary Engineering of Delft University of Technology, with a 0.2 fte seconded position at UN-IHE, Delft. He received both his MSc and PhD from Wageningen University, The Netherlands, and is specialized in Anaerobic Treatment technology. He (co-) published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific journal papers and book chapters and over 400 conference proceedings. His research interest comprises the development of cost-effective technologies for (waste)water treatment, recovering resources such as water, nutrients, biogas, elements from waste streams. Research projects are focused on closing water cycles in industries and sewage water recovery for industrial and/or agricultural use. He promoted 18 and co-promoted 5 PhD students and is supervising 18 PhD students at this moment. Jules van Lier became nominated member of the IWA Fellow programme.
