The principal businesses scope cover many fields such as water services in cities and towns, environmental remediation of river basin, industrial wastewater treatment, seawater desalination, sanitation, municipal solid waste treatment, clean energy and relevant scientific and technical services.
BEWG entered into concession arrangements and service agreements for a total of 937 water plants including 771 sewage treatment plants, 139 water distribution plants, 25 reclaimed water treatment plants and 2 seawater desalination plant. Total daily design capacity for new projects secured for this year was 5,756,813 tons including Build-Operate-Transfer (“BOT”) projects of 320,000 tons, Transfer-Operate-Transfer (“TOT”) projects of 175,000 tons, Public-Private Partnership Project (“PPP”) projects of 1,824,250 tons, entrustment operation projects of 958,656 tons, and 2,478,907 tons through mergers and acquisitions. In the environment sector, Ranhill has a total of 2,362 million litres daily (MLD) of water treatment capacity via its source-to-tap services in Johor. In Thailand, Ranhill operates 10 water and wastewater treatment plants with a total aggregate capacity of 114 MLD, whereas in China, Ranhill’s strategic partnership with SIIC Environment Holdings Ltd, operates 11 wastewater treatment plants with a total aggregate capacity of 222 MLD. The concessions in China range for long periods between 25-30 years.
In addition, Ranhill, via its wholly owned subsidiary, plays a key role in undertaking non-revenue water (NRW) reduction projects in 6 states in Malaysia and Riyadh. Since 2005, it has saved more than 500 MLD of treated water in the 6 states in Malaysia and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia through its NRW business arm. As of December 2018, Ranhill managed to achieve reduction in New Water Revenue (NRW) level in Johor from 24.5% to 24.19%.As for power sector, Ranhill as the largest independent power producer (IPP) in Sabah, via its two subsidiaries is the owner and operator of two combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants which provide a combined electricity generation capacity of up to 380 MegaWatt (MW) of clean energy.
